The primary outcome of the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality Industry Skills - Bar Service is to prepare you to enter the hospitality industry working in the beverage service sector.
Who is this qualification for?
The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality Industry Skills - Bar Service is a vocationally related qualification aimed at learners aged 16+ who want to gain employment in the beverage service sector. There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.
This qualification does not form part of an apprenticeship and is the only bar service specific qualification offered by VTCT.
This qualification introduces the knowledge and understanding of beverage service and will develop technical skills needed to successfully start a career in the beverage service sector. You will have your beverage skills and knowledge assessed in a workplace or realistic working environment.
You will be required to demonstrate your skills at serving wines, making and serving cocktails and customer service. You will also learn about the importance of a safe, hygienic and secure working environment.
This is a vocationally related qualification and includes all the required elements to develop your practical skills. The six mandatory units include safe, hygienic and secure working environments in hospitality, customer service in the hospitality industry, workplace skills, cocktail service, drinks service and wine service.
Assessment can be carried out in a number of different ways including observations, role play, reports, written work or professional discussions. You can use the Record of Assessment book to track your achievement.
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification will prepare you to enter the hospitality industry working in the beverage service sector. On successful completion of this qualification you could also progress directly into employment as bar staff or trainee assistant bar manager in a variety of settings:
- Clubs e.g. sports clubs, private members clubs
- Cruise ships
- Specialist outlets e.g. cocktail bars
You could also choose to progress onto an apprenticeship in Food and Beverage Service.
Who supports this qualification?
The Institute of Hospitality recognise this qualification as being fit for purpose to prepare you for employment within the food service sector.
Mandatory - from this group you'll need to cover a minimum of 6 components and earn a minimum of 15 credits.
