Who is this qualification for?


The VTCT Entry Level Diploma in Vocational Studies - Hair and Beauty (Entry 3) is a qualification that has been designed to introduce you to a range of practical skills from across the hair and beauty industries while providing you with the opportunity to develop your own personal and social skills.

This is a full diploma and will teach you a variety of skills both technical and personal. This qualification has been designed for those who have few or no previous qualifications and will prepare you for further learning in the hair and beauty industries at level 1.

Why is this qualification most suitable?


This particular qualification is suitable for you to study as a standalone qualification as an introduction to hair and beauty education covering all the basic skills and techniques at this level.

This qualification is very flexible and will allow you to choose from over 50 units ranging from; managing your own money to dealing with problems in everyday life, through to basic manicure to plaiting hair. Each unit you choose to study will be underpinned by knowledge and understanding of the subject.

What does this qualification cover?


This qualification will give you the opportunity to perform your own basic hair and beauty services alongside assisting others in the salon.

There are two mandatory units in this qualification;
- Developing yourself
and
- Preparation for work.

You will then be able to select five optional units from group A, which is a large range of personal development units which includes: community action, managing social relationships, parenting awareness, dealing with problems in daily life, individual rights and responsibilities, environmental awareness, making the most of leisure time, working towards goals, managing own money, working as part of a group or healthy living.

You will also be able to select eight units from group B, which is a large range of hair and beauty units which include; create an image using colour, introduction to the hair and beauty sector, present a professional image in a salon, salon reception duties, health and safety, working with others, create and maintain retail displays, hair plaiting, shampoo and conditioning, plaiting and twisting hair, styling men’s and women’s hair, colour hair using temporary colour, hand and skin care, themed face painting, basic manicure and pedicure treatments, basic make-up application and lastly nail art.

What could this qualification lead to?


This qualification will prepare you for further study at level 1 either in both industries, or you may decide to specialise in just one; hairdressing, barbering, beauty therapy or nails by studying one of the following VTCT qualifications:
- VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Hairdressing
- VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy
- VTCT Level 1 Diploma in Vocational Studies – Hair and Beauty
- VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector

- VTCT Level 1 Certificate in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector
