All the units in this qualification relate directly to the specific job role of an exercise referral instructor specialising in the management of low back pain.

Overview


The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Exercise for the Management of Low Back Pain is a vocational qualification that will prepare you as an exercise referral instructor to use exercise and physical activity to manage low back pain. This qualification is designed for learners aged 18 years or over who currently hold an exercise referral qualification with industry practice. The units included in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role.

This is a vocational qualification that includes all the required units to work with clients using exercise and physical activity for the management of low back pain, including: understanding low back pain, designing progressive exercise programmes for clients with low back pain, and delivering exercise programmes for clients with low back pain. There are no optional units.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of low back pain including its prevalence, common interventions and guidelines for management. You will also develop your understanding and skills to competently design and deliver programmes that include screening, assessment, monitoring and evaluation and safe and effective exercises for clients with low back pain.

What could this qualification lead to?


This qualification will prepare exercise referral instructors to work as specialists in the management of clients with low back pain. You will also be eligible to join the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) as a Level 4 specialist instructor (Low Back Pain category). Career opportunities as a specialist instructor instructor exist in a variety of contexts, including:

- Working at a leisure centre or private health club
- Working at/in partnership with a GP surgery
- Working in a private physiotherapy practice
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

This qualification is based on the relevant National Occupational Standards and is recognised by the one of the UK's leading professional associations for exercise and fitness, the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) for preparing learners for employment as an exercise referral instructor specialising in the management of clients with low back pain.
