Who is this qualification for?
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Exercise, Health and Fitness Studies is a substantial vocational qualification that develops the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed to become a fitness instructor in gym based exercise. This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 year old age group.
What does this qualification cover?
The mandatory units in this qualification will develop the knowledge and skills of learners to work effectively and competently as a fitness instructor in a gym based exercise setting. The mandatory units include: anatomy and physiology for exercise; principles of exercise health and fitness; know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity; health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment; planning and instructing gym based execrise; factors affecting participation; leading a healthy lifestyle; people skills; planning and preparing personal exercise and nutrition and lifetsyle factors and their effects on health.
Learners will further develop their knowledge and skills of more specialist areas of fitness instructing including: kettlebell training; studio cycling; circuit training and massage therapy.
This qualification is the only qualification that VTCT offer, suitable for learners wishing to study full time who wish to pursue a career in gym based fitness instructing whilst acquiring additional skills that will complement the gym instructor role e.g. Kettlebell Training, Studio Cycling, Circuit Training or basic Massage Therapy.
In contrast, the VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing, gym-based exercise pathway, would be more suitable for learners wishing to study part time to acquire a qualification in gym-based exercise only.
What could this qualification lead to?
Employment opportunities as a fitness instructor exist in a variety of gym based settings including:
- Leisure centres and health clubs
- Hotels and spa
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a Level 2 fitness instructor, learners may choose to further develop their knowledge and skills and employment opportunities by undertaking a Technical Level qualification at Level 3, in a related discipline, these include:
- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training (Specific Populations)
- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Exercise Referral
- VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Instructing Mat-Based Pilates
