Who is this qualification for?
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Personal Development for Beauty, Nails and Spa Therapy has been specifically designed to enable you to gain skills and knowledge for both personal development and career advancement. This qualification is an enrichment qualification and should be taken in addition to a Level 2 qualification in beauty therapy, nails services or spa therapy. This qualification will enhance progression opportunities from other Level 2 qualifications directly into employment or to further study at Level 3. Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable). This qualification is approved and supported by the Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority (HABIA), the standard setting body for hair, beauty, nails and spa qualifications.
Entry onto this qualification can be via previous attainment of a Level 1 qualification in beauty therapy and/or a successful skills test and interview
Why is this qualification most suitable?
This VTCT qualification encompasses practical units in beauty therapy, nails and spa therapy at Level 2 as well as areas for personal development. This qualification will qualify learners to become a junior beautician/beauty specialist/ spa therapist or nail technician, it allows learners to gather evidence in a realistic working environment or real working environment without the need for fee paying clients.
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification has been specifically designed for the 16-19 age groups, and will develop the knowledge skills to prepare learners for employment as a junior beautician/beauty specialist/ spa therapist or nail technician. Learners will have their beauty therapy skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
Personal development encompasses all types of learning opportunities including formal coursework, and informal learning such as conferences and attendance at exhibitions. Through this qualification you will gain valuable employability skills such as performance improvement, retail selling and work-based experience, which will enhance the practical and technical skills required for a career in beauty related industries.
Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: make-up application, removing hair using waxing techniques, eyelash perming, ear piercing , nail art techniques, head massage, skin tanning, basic reflexology and aromatherapy and healthy eating, - the full list of optional units is presented in the learners Record of Assessment book (ROA) (specification). This structure of this qualification provides learners with the flexibility to develop their knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a junior beautician/beauty specialist/ spa therapist or nail technician.
What could this qualification lead to?
This qualification is an enrichment qualification and should be taken in addition to a Level 2
qualification in beauty therapy, nails services or spa therapy.
This qualification will enhance progression opportunities from other Level 2 qualifications
directly into employment or to further study at Level 3.
Career opportunities exist in a variety of contexts as a junior beautician / beauty specialist/ spa therapist or nail technician, including:
- Working in commercial beauty salons/ nail bars/spas
- Working in a retail concession in a department store
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
While this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a junior beautician/beauty specialist, learners may choose to develop their skills further by undertaking vocational qualifications in beauty therapy at Level 2 or 3, these include:
